Welcome to the STC
Usability & User Experience Community
logo

This web site is a forum to share information and experiences on issues related to the usability and user-centered design. It is the home of the Usability and User Experience Community of the Society for Technical Communication.

Welcome to a New Year of Success with the STC Usability and User Experience SIG!

We come to you as your new Manager and Assistant Manager. The UUX SIG has a long and important history of assisting Technical Communicators in learning about Usability, what it is, how to apply it, and for many, how to make it part of your work life.

In the past couple of years, thanks to the enthusiastic leadership of Mary Deaton and her team, the SIG made strides in education, starting to offer Web Seminars in Usability topics as well as a fledgling and growing virtual Book Club under the determined stewardship of Kathleen MacDowell. We have a longstanding and much-quoted Website, which we plan to review, usability test, and improve over the course of the year. We also have seen excellent forays into the worlds of blogging and twittering, and plan to take those farther, with your encouragement and participation. Our award-winning newsletter is poised to make use of your expertise and writing skills. If you have article ideas or requests, or if you'd like to study online newsletter production under a pro, please get in touch with returning editor David Dick at ddick@infopro.net.

We know personally how hard it may be for some of us to get to the STC Summit meeting in Dallas this year. But if you'll be there, we want to see you. Thanks to the hard work and careful planning of Caroline Jarrett, there will be several terrific presentations in the UUX track, as well as a SIG breakfast meeting and other activities. If you'll be there, please get in touch so we can plan to spend some time together.

This is your SIG. Please let us know what you need, what you'd like, and how you'd like to help us make it happen. In these times of fewer jobs, former full-timers turned contract workers, and many additional kinds of challenges, communities like this one can help you hone the skills you need to stay in your job or get back on track. Looking forward to a successful year with the UUX SIG -- Meenakshi Khanna (Assistant Manager) and Alice Preston (Manager) Get in touch: meenu7goel@gmail.com and alicepreston2010@gmail.com

2010 UUX Officers Elected

Please join us in congratulating Alice and Meenakshi and in thanking them for volunteering to lead our community this year.

If you would like to get involved with supporting UUX activities in 2010, please send an email to Alice at alicepreston2010@gmail.com.
